Overview
The Ecolodge on Lake Matagami is built to the highest environmental standards, yet never compromises on comfort and quality. As a visitor you will make a contribution to the protection of the environment while still enjoying the amenities that are expected by today’s travelers.
While each of the three cabins have been designed for two guests, they can still comfortably accommodate four. Each cabin offers direct access to both the beach and an extensive network of hiking and mountain biking trails, in the summer, and snowshoeing in the winter. The lake offers ideal conditions for backcountry skiing as well as a starting point for snowmobile excursions to the more distant parts of the territory. In the summer the lake provides direct access to the shallow bays, isolated islands and sandy beaches as well as to wilderness trails that will take you to places that few people have seen. However the ultimate discovery experience is with Matagami’s zodiac, which will enable you to explore the many wild rivers that that drain, from the lake, into James Bay.
Situated in the heart of the Lake Matagami landscape, the Ecolodge is located at the foot of Mount Laurier, one of the oldest volcanoes in the world. The surrounding hills are equally famous because it is from here that the North American continent first emerged after the last ice age. These are the traditional lands of the aboriginal Cree People. Lake Matagami is the meeting point of all the major rivers of the region before they flow into the mystical James Bay.
The Ecolodge is sited on a peninsula, with stunning 180-degree views, and in the center of a vast natural par whose landscape will be protected in perpetuity. Furthermore the site surrounding the lodge has been diligently planned to preserve the natural features of the environment while still offering guests a comfortable and relaxed experience. The combination of healthy cooking and a variety of outdoor activities designed for each guest enables you to truly appreciate the joys of this natural environment. And all these activities will have virtually no impact on the environment. The use of solar cells and windmills facilitates the unique opportunity of being totally independent of any electrical system. The environmentally friendly building will enhance your sense of well-being and you will enjoy the wonders of living with the rhythms of nature.
The Ecolodge was constructed using only local labor. Furthermore this exceptional building is the result of 10 years of research, planning and development. The facility has also been built with the complete collaboration of the local Cree and represents one of the finest examples of coexistance and mutual respect between all stakeholders.
Are you ready for a new experience? Are you interested in responsible travel to unique destinations? Are you tired of traveling with crowds? Then the Ecolodge at Lake Matagami offers the vacation that you need in this hectic world.
